History of Gecco yachts
Does anybody know how these yachts (Swan look alike) got developed? Rumour has it that they are old Swan hulls which were extended.

Dear John
The hull for Gecco 39 is a close copy of the Swan 38, and the recessed cove stripe is identical, one can wonder how this was achieved. This was done in Sweden, and there used to be a Swan agency in the same town, for some reason they preferred to keep their eyes and ears shut.
The Gecco deck and appendages are different though, and most of the boats were sold as kits and finished by their owners, this means that the building and finishing standards vary a lot. It should be clear that these boats are not the equivalent of Swans.

It could also be mentioned here that boats called Bosun Queen 55 were built in Sweden in the 1980's and equipped with fake plaques alleging that they were built by a Nautor yard.
This is in a way flattering for Nautor, but is likely to cause great disappointment for the purchaser when the truth is disclosed. Usually this happens when he contacts the yard to report his ownership, and meanwhile the seller has disappeared.

The recommendation is to always make sure that a Nautor build is in question before buying a yacht advertised as a Swan, and preferably also check its history. Either the yard or this Forum can provide expertise.
Kind regards
Lars

Lars, did the builders get hold of old Swan moulds?

Dear John
The moulds are destroyed when not needed any more.
It would also be easy to make moulds from an existing yacht, but the length overall and maximum beam differ somewhat from the 38.
Kind regards
Lars
