Which propeller?

I need to change propellers.

What do people use and how do you get on with it?

Thanks

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

check Maxprop

http://www.max-prop.com

we had the older three bladed version on 47/13 when we bought her in 2001. Since then we logged aprox 35k miles including a circumnavigation. No problems with the prop whatsoever. Still looks and works like new. The pitch is adjustable. With the proper size you will find a good compromise between low revs and max thrust. Needs a regreasing once in awhile. Expensive though, but definitely good value.

Cheers, Michael

Adrian,

six years ago we installed a folding propeller on our 38/014. The propeller is 3-bladed Flex-o-fold, diameter 16" x pitch 14", according to the Professor's recommendation. We have been very satisfied.

Best greetings

Jyrki

I support Michael's recommendation of the MaxProp. We had a two-bladed one on Black Tie and it was very good. I am told that the 3-bladed one provides a bit more drag sailing, but is smoother if you want to do a lot of motoring.
The only problem we had, was after a service in Palma when an engineer put it back together with a much too coarse pitch and then said we needed a new turbo.
I have found it important to adjust the the pitch so that you can always pull the engine manufacturer's maximum revs in normal conditions. Good luck, Gavin

Hi Adrian
I definitely recommend a maxprop three blade. It works just fine. I also suggest that you learn how to put it together yourself. it is easy and strait forward. These things are far too important to let some pseudo engineer fiddle wrongly with it. The manual is very clear and once you have your parameters, the rest follow.

Many thanks for the responses.

We need to replace a maxprop and eventually went for a featherstream. (Corrosion problem had damaged the maxprop).

Just fitted all shinny and new!

Back in the water in 2 weeks, so we will see how it performs.
Cheers

Adrian
