Swan 38 stanchions

Two weeks ago, a force 9+ from the South, hit the Milos harbor in Agistri Island, where I keep Alexandra, bringing waves in the harbor in excess of 1.5 meters. Two boats sunk, and there was a lot of boat damage from boats colliding with each other. This was the case with a 30ft power boat on my starboard side which was crashing on Alexandra for at least 4 hours. Bottom line, the power boat’s deck was crashed (over 30K euro damage), but Alexandra got way with some hull scratches and 4 really bent stanchions.  My question is: where can I get original replacement stanchions or do I need to improvise?

Thanks

Constantine

Dear Constantine
If the stanchions have a black plastic knob at the top they are original and were supplied by Lewmar. They are not available any more
Kind regards

Many thanks Lars! Unfortunately they do have the black cap therefore they are original. I am being told that a local inox shop can cut the bent part and weld a piece with the same diameter so that the overall length and size will stay the same. Otherwise I may have to replace all of them so that they look the same. Any thoughts on the first choice, and can you suggest any possible suppliers for the second?

Many thanks

Constantine

Dear Constantine,

I would buy the new Lewmar, they are not as beautiful as the original, but better than other cheap stuff you an find on the market.

Constantine
I would suggest that a good shop can weld in a new piece and polish so the repair is not visible at all
Kind regards

Many thanks Lars. This is exactly what I will do, I already have a quote for all 4 for about 100 Euro and they are in the process of looking for 316 pipe. They wil re-enforce with a solid piece inside each one. I did not realize that you could do this. Thanks for the great advice (as always!) Constantine
