More about the Swan plaque
The quartz VDO clock placed just under the Swan plaque does not run any more because a small inner plastic gear failed. In the 411 it is a 80mm diameter clock while VDO now produces only smaller clocks (typically 52mm diameter). Moreover I have been spending some time looking for a used similar size clock without success.
My question is: did anybody face this same problem and how did he/she solve it?
The plastic gear does not appear to be easily repaired so I wonder, for example, if it is possible to adapt the mechanism of a new clock to the old case without major adjustments.

Daniel,

I had a problem with my VDO clock, which had a broken hand adjuster. I found Speedy Cables  (www.speedycables.com) of Caerbont Industrial Estate, Abercrave, Swansea SA9 1SQ, who repaired my clock albeit rather slowly. It now works beautifully, though I may say that the clock was working when I sent it to Speedy cables, albeit showing the wrong time!

I hope that this helps.

Hi,

Found this old thread. My VDO clock has a cracked glass and I can't find a replacement. Anybody has any leads for an 80mm VDO clock?

Hi Peter,

an inspiration could be this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=MMKYN9t1FhA

They reference https://www.nhspeedometer.com/ . They renovate VDO instruments from classic cars.
