Swan 48 new teak deck
Hi,

i am planning to reconstruct the teak deck of my Swan 48.

Original teak has been removed by the previous owner so i am starting from scratch.

Any help with photos of an original one?

Many thanks
Guglielmo

Dear Guglielmo,

I have thousands of pics os Swans (as you can imagine...!)...but the only one of a 48 with the teak deck well in sight is the attached one, taken from a heli to Kia Ora (extended transom), hope it helps!

Dear Guglielmo,
if you look at this page at the 48ies the photographs of #46 Assidous IV give a good impression of the original patterns of the deck. Fair winds, Toni (38/113 toge)

Hi

I own Swan 48 Snow Wolf (hull 38) www.YachtSnowWolf.com. The deck is original and I can send you some detailed photos over the Christmas period if you would like to email me, robert.nichols@YachtSnowWolf.com,  a suitable email address.

I'm about to cut out all the seams down to deck level and recaulk as actual teak still in good condition after nearly 40 years, 9mm plus overall and grain not too ridged. Only problem will be if I can't counter sink the screw holes enough to add new plugs. Still worth ago as new deck quotes coming out at €70,000 plus from UK South Coast boat yards!

Regards

Robert

Hello Robert,
just a note apt to be discussed by others: as far as I know the screws of the decks of our boats are not necessary. When the thickness of the teak becomes so thin that the head of the screws cannot be covered by a plug, the screws can be taken off, the holes in the fibreglass properly sealed and the holes in the teak closed with teak plugs (fibres aligned with the plank, of course!).
I have some vague ideas but suggestions on how to seal the fibreglass and how to glue the teak plugs are welcome because this same work is in my long list of things-to-do.
