Swan 43 gooseneck

Hi everyone,

I am not a racer, just cruising around the world.  I need to buy a new mainsail and am curious about something:

On the old 43's, as many of you well know, the gooseneck is not fixed to the mast but slides on an extension of the sail track and therefore moves up and down.  Why did Nautor do this?  Was it a replacement for a cunningham?   I appreciate any information.

Thanks in advance

David, same principal as on a dinghy, which as you rightly say is to tension the luff.

Dear David
In my presentation of Classic Swans slide 16 specifically explains the purpose of the movable gooseneck. Suggest you ask Matteo for a copy (ms@classicswan.org)
Kind regards
