Perspex replacement on sliding hatch
Dear all,

I have to replace the Perspex part on my forward sliding hatch because it is broken. Tried to glue it, but it kept breaking off. Looking through the threads, I found a couple of very useful hints on how to avoid leakage. Thanks everybody! What I am looking for now is an address, where I can get a new Perspex made to measure for my 44. Has anybody done this yet?

Matthias

Dear Matthias,

Stafano Cioni (Oracabessa) replaced his sliding hatch a few years ago in Viareggio (the hatch should be the same in 411's and 44's, Lars please correct me if I'm saying something wrong!).

I will get the address of the shipwright who did the job and I'll get back to you, anyway I think you have to send him the old one as a template (because of the curvature).

Chris:

I have used Lorex for quite a few acrylic replacement projects and have been happy with them. I usuually take my piece to them and they fabricate an exact replacement with all holes, etc. pre-drilled. I have seen them fabricating complex one piece wind screens for power boats there so they are accustomed to marine projects.

In the UK you can use Eagle Windows http://www.eagleboatwindows.co.uk/

Have used them for replacing the coach roof windows and seagull hatchs as well.  Belive they also do toughened glass if you want to go that route.

For glass, www.hourglass.co.uk   is worth a look, although I think they may tend to just do big projects, although I might be wrong.

Cheers

Matthias, I replaced my side windows with toughened glass which was pretty easy. The main front hatch was a bit of a challenge in glaas so went for perspex.

To stop UV problems I had a front hatch cover fitted which does a great job when the yacht is not in use.  A small cost to pay after spending so much on the new hatch.
