Crack on S&S Swan 38
Hi everybody,
yesterday I saw a 1974 Swan 38 (for a matter of privacy it's better not to mention her name hull # ) which showed some cracks (see below) which worried me. Could it be dangerous?

Dear Matteo

As you know the hulls are made of two halves joined along the centerline, and inside is a hull joint laminate with a thickness considerably more than in the topside. The yacht has not left the factory in this condition, but something has happened later. The original trim screw is still there, this would indicate that a major collision is not the reason. It would be advisable to check whether cracking can be found on the inside, outside it is mainly cosmetic

Kind regards

Lars

Matteo,

I've seen similar cracks on other Swans, and just as Lars said, it's dificult that the one you talk about came from a violent colission. I think it's done after entering a marina very fast and touching the dock...

We had a similar crack on Questar's transom which after grinding only went about 1 mm deep.  Purely cosmetic in this case with no sign of damage on the inside.
