Radar

Dear Friends,

I am experiencing a problem with my Raymarine radar . In good  weather conditions it seems to be working ok...but when mist, rain, or even fog  falls ( funny, isn't it ? ) it is not cabale to spot even a  cruise vessel  in 1/2 a mile.

it's 15 years old but before buying a new one I would like to know if anyone of you had ( and fixed ) a similar problem.

Hi
the radar signal is affected by different atmospheric components: rain, hail and even thick fog. It is normal. Usually the signal can pass through fog if it is not too dense but if it is very thick you may encounter the problem you mention.
You should try to understand if you are indeed experiencing the problem in a particularly unfortunate atmospheric situation or the radar is loosing power and/or sensitivity. Does the radar works well with clear atmosphere and far targets? If yes do not worry. If no, you should have it fixed by a radar technician, there are plenty - I would not recommend to buy a new one!
