Swan 44, 411 comparisons

Hi

Having been unsuccesful in purchasing a 411, we are considering a 44. Does anyone have experience of both these Swans?

The 411 seems an ideal size for us, big enough for serious passage making yet with a rig able to be handled by the two of us when shorthanded. From the specifications of the two boats, the size of the rig of the 44 and waterline length are almost identical with that of the 411. can anyone comment on the differances between these two? Any advice or comments would be very much appreciated.

Best Regards

Paul

Dear Paul

Here some purely technical aspects:

With equal rig lengths the sheeting forces are proportional to the stability. The tall rig 44 therefore needs 15% more force compared to the 411, and the short rig 44 20% more.

The 41 and 411 have exactly the same hulls, and the difference in LWL is determined by the position of the rudder stock, which is that much further aft on the 411. The 44 has a longer LWL in practice, and will be a little faster.

Kind regards

Lars
