Does anyone know the KG value for the 65?

Dear WillFox

Afraid that very few people on this forum know what KG means.

G is some distance below the water surface, suggest you ask for an IMS certificate, the position is given there.

The point K can be defined in several ways for sailing yachts, and without knowing which one you use an answer can not be given.

Kind regards

Lars

Dear Lars,

Thank you very much for your reply. Im sorry I did not make myself clear. When I use the term K I mean to the bottom of the keel, Im aware that some people take it to be to the bottom of the canou body. Do you have any good contacts reguarding the Swans? I have posted numerous emails and have got nowhere. Thanks for your help.

Dear Will

KG is abt 2.75 m, but pls be aware that there are variations affecting this to some extent:

-early hulls have lighter keel, later heavier

-there are ketch and sloop rigs, and tall ketch rigs

-early hulls have heavier scantlings, later lighter

IMS certificates can be found on US Sailing's website. I guess your questions to the yard may be too detailed, the information is considered confidential

Kind regards

Dear Lars,

That brilliant. Thank you very much for your help. I have taken a look at the US sailing website and have sent Donna a message regarding the query. I’m also interested in the 55, do you have a rough value for this too. I do hope I’m not abusing your generosity but any info would be hugely appreciated. I'm guessing a proportionally lower value as the hull type is older than the 65. I am currently putting together a dissertation for a naval architecture degree and I'm sure you understand how hard it is to get valuable information as a financial reward is not involved. Thanks again for your help.

Kind regards

Suggest that IMS certificates are used as these are based on measurement. Found one Swan 55 sloop, KG = 2.15, and one yawl, KG = 2.25

Lars,

I will take a look at the IMS certificates. Thanks again. You've been a great help.
