Price check on aisle 5 - headsail for 411
I am about to pull the trigger on a new 100% #3 furling sail - I am new to this boat, and wonder if 8,700 US is a fair price for a nice, heavily made Norlam sail from a vendor who will remain nameless - are there other makers out there that produce nice sails at competitive prices for our older boats that I should ask to quote? Spinnaker for about 4.5k US, same question.

Thanks and following seas -

I'm not familiar with Spinnaker prices but I bought a 145 Kevlar Jib for my Swan 41 from a good loft last winter for less than 6k.  The price that you've been quoted seems a bit high to me but I really can't claim to be an expert.

Thanks for that - in the meantime, I went with the bid, because they threw some other things at me that seemed like compensation (good prices on staysail and trysail, a 'free' cleaning of my 135, which although only used 4-5 times lightly, had crap in the layers and looks like hell (boat was CA boat, and the story I got was the stuff trapped in the sail was soot from the extensive fires out there a couple years ago - whatever).

But - I might well want to buy more sails moving forward, so if you would be willing to give me a recommendation on the loft you used, if you are happy with their work, it seems apples to apples that you got a much better deal - would love to have them quote future work - I surely would appreciate it.

Thanks and fiar winds to Four Suns -

I sent you an email with contact information.  Best of luck with the new sail.
