What is this for?

Dear Swan-sailors,

This looped wire is included in the equipment of our 38/014 boat. The diameter of the wire is 7 mm, and length 2.2 m. The diameter of each of the three loops is 5 cm. Both ends are equipped with halyard snap shackles. 

I have trie to figure out what this wire is meant for, but without success. Does anyone know? Professor?

Sorry, the wire diameter is 4 mm.

This is not standard equipment - has been made on special request.

My guess is that this thing is for harbour use, possibly for rigging a sun awning over the cockpit
