Eight Bells for Swan 43/005

I have sad news to share with fellow Swan owners and especially the 43 owners.

My good friend Don Goodspeed's Swan 43 "Cygnus" (hull #5) was swept onto a rocky lee shore when her mooring lines chafed through in a storm last fall.  Pinned against the rocks the boat did not completely sink and a salvage was hired to pull her off the rocks to take her to the nearest marina hoistway.

My understanding is that the salvage operation did not go well and the boat ended up as a total loss.

As you can imagine Don was so upset he could not tell me about this until earlier this year.  He had done the great Circle Route around the Atlantic (most of the time single handed) aboard "Cygnus" and cherished the boat like most of us Swan owners.

I am planning to take him sailing this summer aboard the Hiro Maru.  Hopefully it won't make him too nostalgic.

Hiro

My condolences to Don!!!!! Our boats are a big part of our lives and after his sailing experiences with her it must be particularly hard. I hope insurance allows him to get another 43 to create new memories!!
