Happy end on a S&S Swan 38 (mid Atlantic)
Dear All,

our Member Vincenzo left St. Marten on 2nd May to the Azores, with his beloved S&S Swan 38/063 Fortefiore. He was crossing the big pond with a friend onboard. They found a very good weather and were happily sailing.
On the ninth day they broke the steering cable (which they carefully checked before the departure)!
They continued sailing to the Azores with the emergency tiller steering (unfortunately, as in most of the 38's the automatic pilot does not work on the quadrant), 2 hours each, night and day for nine days...!
They landed in Faial on May 20th very tired but happy!

Well done Vincenzo (due to sail to Spain in two/three days)

The advice is to carry a spare steering cable.
Matteo's comment is correct, with an autopilot connected to the quadrant a broken steering cable is not a big problem, as the autopilot can steer the boat in moderate conditions.
