Looking for "Toscana", S&S Swan 48
Hello All -

Does anyone know of the Swan 48, Toscana, which sailed in the Fastnet '79 race, owned at that time by Eric Swenson of CT, USA? Is she in the association under a new name, or is she still out there sailing as Toscana? I did not think to search her sail number, which I will try too (20184 - very coincidental, as my boat is 28410). Toscana was well captained and crewed, and availed herself well in that tragic race. I am hoping to correspond with her captain and/or crew members from that time.

Thanks, and Fair Winds,

Geoff

I found a sailing blog posted by Eric Swenson a few years back, and he was then sailing a different boat also named Toscana, so the name went with him and he was still sailing, by then well into his eighties, evidently (as he was 61 in the '79 Fastnet). Also, the Swan Toscana that sailed in the '79 Fastnet was a 47, not a 48...sorry about that mistake. I am still hoping to find the boat, though.

Thanks,

Geoff

Geoff, you were right that it was a Swan 47. One one his crew in that race was the well known writer, John Rousmaniere who wrote the book Fastnet Force 10.
John spoke at Olin's dinner at mystic. The book should still be available. I hope this helps, Gavin
