Slick winch drum
Hello,

is there any way to restore a winch drum that has gotten slick? My Swan 36 has a pair of the original (?) Barlow 28s and it would be both costly and a shame to change them to a new pair. But the grip is not what one would need anymore.

Best

Dear Aleksi
Winch drums can be roughened using a needle gun. Flattening the needle tips increases the roughness.
Kind regards

Thanks, Professor! Can you describe the process in more detail? I guess one uses first less power to find the right amount of torque?

There are lots of needle guns on the market, and it is essential to try out the proper treatment level. If the drums are made too rough that will chafe the sheets, and a moderate profile is suggested. Compare with new drums.
Kind regards
