Refit Lewmar windlass
Gentlemen,
May I ask this eminent forum for an advise on how to maintain or refit the standard Lewmar windlass, anchor-winch.
Mine shows a sad condition on the outside from ages of constant moisture, salt and nasty climate down there in the chain locker room. The surface paint is literally cracked off, and the original paintjob is flaking off. This makes it look miserable, even though it works perfect "up and down".

I`d certainly like to have it shine again.

From a source here in Norway I`m told the restoring method is sandblasting, priming with 2-comp primer, and finally heavy truck-paint on top. Can anyone verify this, or suggest else?
The Lewmar housing is probably aluminum, so the metod may also be used on the pidestall in the cockpit?

Best regards,

BalticSkipper

Hello (it is difficult to call you Baltic Skipper! What about a name?)

Anyway, on a clean metal take two or more coat of "Interprotect". Then, "Perfection" or similar. It will be fine, but the most important is "interprotect".

Good luck// philippe
