Velvet drive motor mounts

Dear All,

This weekend, my son and I raised our Perkins 4.108, transmission already off, so that we could replace the rear main seal, oil pan gaskets and seals and ultimately, the motor mounts too.

When I examined the back mounts, I saw that the motor mount stud was too far back to support the engine; a rectangular piece of steel had been bolted to the top of the motor mount, where one would expect the engine bracket to be mounted.  A second hole in the steel plate extends the reach of the motor mount forward by about 2 1/2 inches - the engine brackets are mounted here.  Not an optimal solution.

I was informed by a friend, who happens to be an excellent mechanic, that the velvet drive transmissions often have their own brackets which mount to the motor mounts.

Does anyone know of this is how the Perkins 4.108 on the 43s was originally set up?

Thanks,

Chris Mabel's Casse Tete 43/003
