Swan 48 Centre Point Lift

Hello.

Snow Wolf (Swan 48 hull 38) has a centre point lift that has some wooden wedges holding the steel plates apart. Are the wedges required? The old ones are soacked in oil and smell very bad so need replacing if they are still required.

I will never use the centre point lift.

Any views.

Dear Snowwolf

Could not find photos of Swan 48 lifting lug, but it is likely to be very similar to the one shown below.
If so, the wooden wedges are not required, and can well be removed.

If you have oil in the bilge, either the engine bay is not closed off properly from the bilge, or has flooded at some instance. The recommendation is to keep the bilge free from oil.
Kind regards
Lars
