Swan 44 - ss shoe over lead keel

Hello everyone,

I have exposed the stainless steel shoe below the lead keel and covering the trialing edge.

I noticed a small area on the trialing edge which has what looks like pitting corrosion.

I am considering grinding out the corrosionand  filling with a special metal repair/rebuilding compound - Belzona - instead of the usual epoxy filler used elsewhere underwater.

Another option could be to fill with welding but this may be more problematic and affect the lead.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Dear dav
I would not be too concerned about the slight corrosion on the stainless trailing edge, it is just a fairing without structural function.
It appears that the keel casting is very rough, and requires a thick layer of filler to get a smooth surface.
Kind regards
Lars

dear Lars

i have a question which is making me very curious:

how is the stainless steel fixed ot the lead?

is the lead cast into the stainless steel "structure" or ids the stainless steel dressed over the lead?

thank you as always for your help

regards,

dav
