Swan 37 deck construction
Hi all. I am considering the purchase of a '71 Swan 37 and I was wondering if any of you knew how the decks are built. I'm assuming it's done with some sort of coring (plywood, foam etc), but I can't find any information on it. Thanks in advance.

You are right, decks are cored, and PVC foam was used. Pls note that hi-load areas are single skin with reinforcements.

Kind regards

Lars

Hi Lars. Thanks a lot for the info.  I'm driving down to look at the boat this weekend and while I have your attention I was wondering if you knew of any possible problem spots I should check out. I will of course get a survey before buying but while I'm poking around it would be helpful to know what to look for myself.

I've read about chainplate issues on the 40s but I don't know if you get these same problems with the 37s and I'm not sure how hard they are to fix. Do you have any insight on any of this?

For a yacht of this age the condition depends very much on how she has been looked after. If you find specific points of concern it is suggested that you take pictures. Most things can be fixed.

Thanks guys. I saw the boat and she looks to be in pretty good shape although she does need some upgrades. I made a survey contingent offer so I guess I'll just have to wait and see how things go from here. If I get her I may come back here with a few questions.
