Stanchions
I need to replace the stanchions of my 411. I have found that Hallberg-Rassy sells a very similar type with plastic top but I am not totally convinced. Any good advice?

Dear Daniel,

Lewmar have very good quality stanchions, and I think the same Nautor install nowdays (Lars, please correct if this is a wrong info).

Fair winds!

Dear Daniel and Matteo

Stanchions with plack plastic top were earlier available from Lewmar, but not any more since many years back.

It appears Lewmar do not have any stanchions in their catalogue nowadays.

Would comment on the plastic top that if it breaks it can usually not be repaired. A steel top is less prone to damage, and repairable.

Best regards

Lars

Dear Daniel

See my post of 8March 09 for a photo of how I reconditioned the Lewmar stanchions

Dear Daniel,

www.sailboatowners.com sells tapered stanchions that are all 316 stainless with machined tops. They are much like the version that I think Shaefer used to offer before they went to a straight version with plastic top.

Hope this helps...
