Swan 41 - Modified
Dear Owners
Reading through previous threads I noted an extended discussion on foredeck hatches. Here is a picture of a modified Swan 41 at Lymington that has been tuned for racing. Lewmar hatch and carbon fibre boon and mast.
Best Regards

Hello Lars
Her name is Philippides II. Quite a well known boat on the race circuit. I will find out her hull number. Here is another photograph!

I know this 41 which also has a much more modern deck layout than the original. Its owner also used to be involved with Formula Spars who made the mast and interestingly mast the new fractional rig for Monsoon - the winner at this year's Swan Cup. The boat's owner used also to have a Frers designed Swan 60 in the Med. Gavin

Dear All,

she should be hull # 041, I saw her a few years ago and she has just a very few original layout...

Dear Gavin, Monsoon was too deeply modified, and I think her owner spent really good time and money to upgrade her, buy next generation sails, but at the last Swan Cup Shirlaf (hull #021), with her original ketch rig, with very old cruising sails (and furler) and (believe me) full of cruising gear, arrived just a few second behind Monsoon, so... was that Monsoon (and Philippides) transformation worthwile...?

Fair winds!

I agree Shirlaf did a great job at the Swan Cup. I saw her when we were on holiday with Black Tie in the Aeolian Islands this summer and she didn't look like a potential regatta winner. If you look at the actual times and ratings at this year's Swan Cup (I wasn't there like you) it looks like Monsoon was consistently 10% faster than the other 65's which she had to do to beat her rating. I remember Olin Stephens saying that he thought the 65's would have had more racing successes if they had been sloops like Dora/Tenacious/Warbaby that the the 65's were derived from. Another factor in Monsoon's performance was her very high quality maybe high cost racing crew.

Dear Gavin,

I don't know who were onboard Monsoon, but I know Peppe (Shirlaf's owner) was there with wife and friends!

Fair winds!
