Fitting Hydrovane Self Steering to Swan 411

I am thinking that I should install a self steering gear on my Swan 411. The Hydrovane seems to have the advantage that it can be installed offset, does not require anly lines to the steering wheel and it can be used as an emegency tiller. Has anyone had experience of fitting a Hydrovane to a S&S Swan, who might be able to give me some advice?

Anton.

Good choice a great piece of equipment. We took about half a day to fit it. We made up our own Stainless washers, maximum size possible in space to spread loads. Used nylocks to secure. The wooden spacer block we made to keep the hydrovane rudder 6 inches distance from the main rudder. Hydrovane have a white plastic block you can buy but its expensive.

If you have a pole on the stern, the larger vane might catch it when going down wind.
