Dear Jens, on our 38 we do have the same : cracks in the dome and even some leckage of the fluid inside due to a porous membrane under the scale. I have been to several companys earning their money with these kind of repairs, with calibration and compensation of compasses - living in Hamburg this wasn't too hard. Their answer were all the same: "Congratulation to one of the best compasses in the world and now.... replace it. Anything else doesn't make any sense." That was two years ago. Since then I am very pleased about these nice little crack patterns on the dome. It is something very unique! But if you find a solution I wouldn't mind if you kept me informed... All the best, Toni |

Dear Jens, I had the same problem on my 38/067, four years ago, then I discovered a guy in Genoa (Italy) who did a FANTASTIC job, he made a new glass and completely overhauled the compass, now it's like new! I've spoken to him just now and he said he can probably do the same job on your compass. (he does not speak English, but his daughter does, so it's better you to send him an e-mail) Fair winds! Thanks for your reply gentlemen. It seems like there are several solutions to the problem.
