Spreader problem
On one of the end's of the spreader there is an aluminium part
missing which the previous owner replaced with a single screw to
prevent the standing rigging to slip out of the spreader. A
reasonable solution for now but not for the long term. I could shorten the ends of both spreaders and make a new kind of groove to hold the rigging. Another option would be to make a new end out of aluminium and replace the defective part and reattach it to the spreader with a new weld. Which would be the best solution?
Someone who encountered the same problem?

Dear Paulus
Would recommend that a new end is made and welded in. With the other solution the spreader shortens a little bit, which is not advisable.
This sort of damage is very unusual, and considerable force was needed to cause it.
Kind regards
Lars
